Studio + Guest Room: Sleeper Sofa!

Oh the pains of trying to design on a next-to-nothing budget.  I created the Studio + Guest Room Mood Board, which is all well and good, but how do I make this happen?  Painting the room cost so much that I have to be a little creative with putting the rest of it together.

About the same time I decided to do red and blue accents, my co-worker had a pre-sale yard sale for our office.  Not only did I find two adorable red flower candy dishes with saucers from Pier 1 ($6), but I also snagged a cobalt blue glass serving bowl ($1), colorful cloth place mats with matching napkins ($4), and un-opened Shakespeare in Love ($3).  But the best purchase of all was the full-sized sleeper sofa she sold to me for $25 in good condition.  She also threw in the red Pottery Barn pillow and throw blanket.

Literally, the day before she told me about the sleeper, I had been scouring Craigslist looking for an ok, not hideous, affordable sleeper for company.  I can tell you that in our area, such standards are impossible.  The hideous ones in "eh" condition were $300.  Les digo la verdad.  I'm telling you all the truth.

So I felt like I hit the jackpot when she mentioned at lunch that she might put her big-ticket items on Craigslist, like her sleeper sofa that she'd be willing to take $25 for, just to get rid of it before she moves.

And now that sofa resides in my studio + guest room, ready for company.  It could stand for a new mattress, but without the money, we'll only be able to offer our guests a foam egg crate padding.

Let's get a little closer....

Looks pretty neutral, but here is the actual pattern:

Deep red and blue stripes!  The couch actually looks a little gray in the room.

I haven't taken a picture of it pulled out yet...but we still have the full sized red sheets I barely had the chance to use in my college apartment.  Hooray!  I don't have to buy sheets.
